Go Time
Definitely go time here in Central Nebraska. Planter in about every other field I've driven by on way to and from class. Guys aren't messing around with possible rain later this week. That means will have to start up the scouting season pretty soon.

One way to do it.
Proud Moment
I have been lucky enough to be apart of a lot of great cattle. Whether it's is one that we raised at Ricks, or someone that has had me help them fit, I've been able to work on quite a few good ones. So why a picture of this heifer? She's not that great game changer but she holds a special spot to me. Until recently I haven't owned any cows of my own. I finally got a little extra money and bought two show heifers for the 2009-2010 showing season. Well this is the first calf out of one of those heifers. She was Champion Maine Female at the 2012 Nebraska Cattlemen's Classic. I've had a lot of joy from being a part of winners. But raising, working on, and showing one that was all mine out of the heifer I showed and owned. A pretty cool feeling I must say. And even better yet is that this heifer sold to a great family a couple hours from me. Their girl that shows her loves her to death and that brings me great joy. Hopefully I can continue to grow my cow herd and have continued success. Instead of Rick having all the fun and enjoyment :-)
The office
This would be the office in my apartment where I try to make movie magic happen. Still learning a thing or two but still very thankful for the opportunities I've gotten so far. If you're needing any video work, don't be afraid to give me a call or shoot me an email with any questions you may have.

Well timed rain
Hopefully this post doesn't make it stop but we are finally getting a nice and well timed rain. On top of that 99% of the fields we scout are getting it. Should make a great seed bed for planting here in a few weeks!

Welcome/Introduction
Hello my name is Derek Vogt. I live in Cairo, NE. Was born and raised in Boelus, NE (population 200). I am a 21 year old Agribusiness major at the University of Nebraska-Kearney. I am blessed to be able to be apart of many different things in the great world of Ag. I would not be where I am at if it weren't for the help of my brother in-law Rick Schultz. Rick got me started into agriculture by showing sheep at the age of 8 and moving up to cattle by the age of 10. The rest as they say is history. Rick has a very successful show cattle operation, Rick Schultz Show Cattle, in Cairo, NE. I am proud to be apart of it and that is what takes up most of my spare time. There is nothing I enjoy more then getting home from class and heading out to the farm to work on calves and just free my mind.
I recently started a cattle photography and videography business. I enjoy being able to go around and view other peoples cattle. As well as getting them displayed and promoted in a way that will help them succed with their sales. I am also very thankful and gracious to Mr. Matt Lautner. He has given me the opportunity to make him Weekend Wrapup videos for his blog. They are a great recap for the success that his bulls have over the weekend in a nice condensed package.
In the Summer when not too busy with cattle or school, I work with Rick on his Agronomy business. We run a big and busy schedule between the two of us. We look at everything and answer any question that the farmers may have. It is a great job that I thoroughly enjoy.
I am also very lucky to have a great and beautiful girlfriend Michelle. She has to put up with my long hours, and lots of miles of traveling. And thankfully she has stuck around!
That is a quick insight into what I take part in! Hope to keep you entertained and maybe teach you a thing or two. Thanks for stopping by!
